A Tribute to Black History Month with Wareham History: Dempsey’s Dream

Monday, February 17, 2020
Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main Street, Wareham, MA  02571

ADMISSION:  Members are free, non-members-$2.00

Hear local historian Lynda Ames in a tribute program titled, Dempsey’s Dream: A  story of racial equality within a forgotten piece of  Wareham history. It chronicles the life of a North Carolina slave who escaped during the Civil War and made his way north to settle in our town.

As a master boatman, working for others, his greatest dream was to own his own craft.

At the time of his death, he was beloved and remembered by some of Wareham’s most notable residents, who had been proud to call him a friend.

Refreshments will be served after the program.  For more information, please call Angela M. Dunham, President, WHS.
