Former Town Moderator Claire Smith, who served as Wareham’s “Goodwill Ambassador” for the town, will present an overview of the trip she and her husband Howard took to Wareham, England in October of 2021.

Mrs. Smith had been working for years to establish ties to Wareham, a market town in Dorset, England located close to the south coast of the island.

In 2019, she contacted the officials in the British town and confirmed the official visit, but Covid caused a two-year delay. Prior to their visit, at a Select Board meeting, Mrs. Smith was formally named the “Goodwill Ambassador” and was given a proclamation to present to the English officials declaring that we were reconfirming our “friendship with the town of Wareham, England.”

The lecture for the Wareham Historical Society will include a PowerPoint presentation of photographs of the visit to Wareham and the surrounding area,   Mrs. Smith will also display items that were presented to her by the Mayor of Wareham, England.
