The Wareham Historical Society proudly invites the public to hear about the Maxim Motor Company, builders of fire apparatus in Middleboro, MA from 1914-1989. The program will be held 7 p.m. at The Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main St., Wareham, MA 02571 on Monday, November 19, 2018 by former Wareham resident Howie Smith.
Howie, a Cambridge firefighter, writer, and historian is well-known by the locals and nationally alike, as the “Maxim Guy”. A short presentation will detail how he started collecting Maxim information, and authored two books. He will share some photos of Wareham and Onset apparatus built by Maxim and talk about a very recent partnership that resulted in the acquisition and preservation of all the Maxim builders records from potential loss.
Howie Smith is a member of the Antique Truck Historical Society (ATHS), SPAAMFAA (The Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America) and is Past-President and current Board of Director for the Massachusetts Antique Fire Apparatus Association.
