Two items linked to Wareham’s past have come home. It is the wish of the John Ames family of Cumberland County, Maine that a brass trolley bell from the New Bedford and Onset Street Railway and the brass steam whistle that sat atop Cape Cod Shipbuilding be returned to Wareham.
Lynda Ames, local historian and genealogist, on behalf of the Ames family, will give a little background information on these two pieces and also encourage a discussion about other early Wareham industries, schools and churches that used bells and whistles to alert workers and the general public of the time of day. Refreshments will be served after the program. Admission: Members- Free, Non-Members $2.00.
